Office of the President
Leading LSU Forward
In his first few months at LSU, President Rousse has been hard at work—meeting with students, faculty, and staff, listening to the community, and building a strong foundation for the work ahead.
We Build Teams that Win
For many LSU students, Mardi Gras is not just a celebration. It is a part of their childhood, Louisiana culture, and their sense of home. They grew up along Louisiana parade routes, catching beads from floats, sharing king cake with family, and learning early what the season means to the communities around them. Today, those same students are bringing those lived experiences into the research lab.
New findings show restored marshes can support secretive marsh birds when designed correctly. Variable water levels, shallow ponds, tidal creeks, and native vegetation like Roseau Cane help create habitats that mirror natural marshes and support declining bird species.
Since LSU alum Brett Davis founded Grounds Krewe, the company has helped reshape how Mardi Gras revelers think about throws. Grounds Krewe has sold more than 780,000 sustainable throws since 2020.
A University Laboratory School student turned a class project into a lasting environmental partnership, leading a cypress restoration along the LSU Lakes that connected students, educators, and community leaders while creating hands-on learning and long-term impact.
LSU alumnus and Baton Rouge native Dustin Lafont founded Front Yard Bikes as a student, turning a simple enthusiasm for bicycles into a youth development framework built on hands-on learning and leadership.
Every year, thousands of injured wild animals across Louisiana depend on the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s Wildlife Hospital for lifesaving medical care. The goal is always the same: to heal, rehabilitate, and return these animals to their natural habitats.
