Emily Hsu is an award-winning Assistant Professor in the Rucks Department of Management
at LSU's E. J. Ourso College of Business. She received her PhD in Business Administration
(Organizational Behavior Area) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2026.
As a mixed-methods, phenomenological researcher, Emily strives to address research
questions that embody both timeliness and timelessness. At its core, her work is driven
by an interest in what makes us fundamentally human—our emotions and social nature—and
how these shape the ways we connect, collaborate, and navigate the ever-evolving workplace
and broader society.
She is particularly drawn to topics related to the interpersonal dynamics of emotions,
from phenomena such as emotional whiplash and affective convergence to discrete "social"
emotions such as shame and nostalgia. Emily is also fascinated by digital technologies
(e.g., AI) and the future of work, such as hybrid/remote work and changing expectations
around performance (i.e., strategic underperformance, quiet quitting). Other interests
include workplace relationships, trust, conflict management, and group/team dynamics.
Teaching Interests: negotiations and conflict management, organizational behavior
Research Interests: emotions, interpersonal relationships, changing world of work (e.g., remote or hybrid
work, digital technologies, new norms and expectations)
