Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about the Tiger Teacher Corps. We hope this section helps clarify what to expect and how to get involved. If you don’t see your question here or need more details, please contact us—we’re happy to help.

Tiger Teacher Corps is an initiative of the College of Human Sciences & Education that serves all LSU students who plan to become teachers, regardless of their academic home. Many first-year students are initially housed in University College (UC), and others remain in colleges such as Music & Dramatic Arts, Agriculture, or Science while completing teacher preparation programs. This designation is typical and expected.

Even if your designation does not say CHSE, you are still fully included in the Tiger Teacher Corps. As a TTC student, you have access to CHSE advising support, programming, mentoring opportunities, and professional resources. You do not need to change your major or officially transfer into CHSE to participate.

For example, students pursuing the Bachelor of Music Education through the College of Music & Dramatic Arts are automatically part of the Tiger Teacher Corps and will receive TTC communications, course invitations, and event announcements throughout the year.

Students preparing for teaching careers are encouraged to select the College of Human Sciences & Education residential college in Cypress Hall. Residential colleges are designed to create smaller, close-knit communities within LSU, making it easier to connect with peers, faculty, and staff who share your academic goals.

Cypress Hall places you near many education-related courses and offers built-in academic support, including an in-house counselor and a rector who both teaches and advises within CHSE. Living in a residential college can make the transition to LSU smoother while helping you build strong relationships early in your college experience.

HSE 1000 is a one-credit-hour first-year experience course for incoming freshmen in teacher preparation programs, offered during the fall semester. The course is designed to help you successfully transition to LSU while beginning your development as an educator.

In HSE 1000, you’ll learn what it means to be a professional teacher, explore career pathways in education, and get introduced to the Tiger Teacher Corps. You’ll also connect with faculty, staff, and a cohort of fellow future teachers, gain access to campus and college resources, and start building the academic and professional habits that will support you throughout your time at LSU and beyond.
